Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is presently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
